Claude Code tightens controls for fleets and headless use
Claude Code moved through three consecutive point releases, each geared toward organizations rather than individual interactive sessions. Version 2.1.259 let organizations push managed HTTP or SSE MCP servers to every user while skipping any entry that names a command to run, added a --permission-prompts none flag so unattended headless hosts deny anything that would otherwise require a prompt, and taught the tool to recognize GitLab merge-request actions from glab. Version 2.1.260 added a diff panel that can sit beside the conversation in fullscreen mode, surfaced the likely cause of prompt-cache misses directly in /cost and the status line, and extended /reload-plugins to headless sessions.
Version 2.1.261 continued the same administrative thread: /status and claude doctor now explain why an organization's policy failed to load — for instance when a proxy fails to pass through the required endpoint — and two new settings, bashOutputMaxChars and taskOutputMaxChars, let command and background-task output return up to 128,000 characters inline before falling back to a file. A further flag lets large subagent system prompts be supplied from a file rather than the command line. Taken together, the three releases read as incremental hardening for organizations running Claude Code across many machines under centralized policy, rather than new end-user features.
